Georgia O'Keeffe was one of the first known artists that inspired me to pursue my career in the Arts about 25 years ago. Her biography gave me inspiration to continue as a female artist, and to follow my own creative path. In 2019 I felt it was important for me to acknowledge her by painting her portrait. In terms of colour scheme I was inspired by one of her paintings called 'calla lily' in dark burgundy, pink and black shades. I aimed at hinting her work in the background of my own painting, in order to position her in her own environment. The background was done quite quickly in a gestural way, but it took me more hours doing her face as I was really aiming at capturing her intense gaze and resemblance. I was happy with the result, and in a way it is a very special piece to me, hence reflecting in the asking price.

Marianne Simonin is a French artist who works mostly in oils and charcoals to explore symbolism and the female energy. Her inspiration comes from being mostly attuned to synchronicity and nature. By connecting with the primordial elements her compositions move beyond landscape reproductions and seek to express emotions or states of mind. The act of walking in nature as one moves step by step along a path, and the awareness of one’s inner world has contributed to her new series on crossroads. I have drawn inspiration from the following artists: Uwe Wittwer (Swiss), Françoise Pétrovitch (French), Celia Paul (UK), Agnes Martin (USA) and Japanese art. My source of references stem from my archive of vintage and personal photos, songs, poems, and meditative states. I use the human figure as a thread to revive emotions and childhood memories, or to make a statement about women that I admire and see as symbols of female energy. My studio is currently in North West London surrounded by a beautiful park which helps me to remain connected with nature.
