About The Artwork

The central figure of the work is a butterfly of red and orange colors, on a blue whirlpool. The bottom is made almost entirely with the spatula technique, and shows a giant and powerful swirl, with fast and rotating movement of a centrifugal form. It is representing a force outside our control, which attracts, magnetizes and absorbs everything around us, including our free will. The butterfly symbolizes the supposed "freedom", which in our imagination interpretative of the facts, makes us think that we are absolute possessors and owners of our destiny. Consumed and attracted by this "force", the butterfly approaches more and more the abyss, innocent, alien and unable to escape the outcome that awaits. The title of the work suggests that in our identification with that fragility, we walked unsteadily towards an uncertain and lethal destination. This subjective analogy comes from the fact that in some cultures the breath of the soul is represented, with a butterfly coming out of the mouth of someone agonizing, like the vital breath that escapes. Here, I wanted to represent just the opposite. It is our life force, our illusion to be reborn and transcend limitations, which escapes and is inevitably consumed far from the reach of our will.

I am Jercyna, and define myself as soil; by my nature I am a woman; by my conscience, girl; my willpower, painter; and indeed, I try to always be myself. My art is the highest form of communication that I use to make the world around me, a more beautiful place. I am novice and self-taught painter, Brazil, located in Tenerife. Through my work, I try to show everything between my sensibility and creativity. I quieting the mind listen to my inner connection, expressed almost always colorfully. As the great writer Joseph Campbell said, "I do not think people are looking for the meaning of life, and seek the experience of being alive," and that is what I find when I paint. That is art for me.
