About The Artwork

This artwork is one of my favourite because it has all of symbols that I love. I used silk because this material for me has its' very special soul, it vibrates, breathes, transforms. CAT The cat is a sacred animal in many cultures. The cat can personify a deep, intuitive "I". It can be a symbol of independence and bliss, grace and strength. The dilation and constriction of the cat's pupils was associated with the waning and waning moon, which made this animal also a symbol of the moon, which is also present in the work. In China, the character for the cat "mao" is the same as for the number 80, and this made the cat a symbol of long life. In Chinese tradition, cats have the ability to drive away evil spirits. HAND The rays of the sun are shown in the picture by alternating right and left hands. The hand is a part of the body with an extremely wide and varied range of meanings. The symbolism of the hand is based on its role as a tool for influencing the world around us, as a mediator in the transfer of spiritual and physical energy. The left hand is associated with spiritual power, while the palm with outstretched fingers carries the idea of uniting masculine and feminine bases, protection, sun rays and life-giving power from Heaven. Among other meanings there are: gift, generosity, hospitality, management, aspiration, recovery. “We can say that the hands almost speak. Do we not use them when we demand, promise, summarize, let go, threaten, plead, express our disgust or fear, question or denial? Do we not use them to show joy, sadness, recognition, reproach, repentance, measure, quantity, number and time? Do they not have the power to excite and prohibit, express approval, surprise, shame? " (Quintillian, Roman rhetorician). BUTTERFLY The butterfly is a symbol of the soul, rebirth and resurrection, the ability to transform, to transform. The ancient Greeks considered the butterfly to be a symbol of the immortality of the soul. Psyche, whose name means "soul", was presented in the form of a girl with butterfly wings. For the Japanese, a butterfly symbolizes a young woman, and butterflies fluttering around one another mean family happiness.

My name is Daria Tikhomirova and I live and work in Barcelona. I'm inspired a lot by silk and I mostly work with this fabric. I love its' softness, transparency. It made me think if silk paintings with 3D effect. You may find one in my profile, it's "Russian Seasons in Paris" with 5 ballerinas. There are two layers of silk that create this effect of third dimension. I love ballet and I have a series of works with ballet dancers. I participated in the Salon des Artistes Français in 2016 and in Drouot sales (organised by musee MoLA). In 2018 I took part in the Salon des Artistes Indépendants in the Grand Palais (Paris). I regularly take part in exhibitions in Russia.
