About The Artwork

In the case of the Unfolded portrait, I deliberately broke my canvas in the middle at a right angle to create a vertical axis closest to us in space. When viewed straight on, it provided a realistic portrait sensation, but from other angles, distortion became apparent. It was important to depict the distortion caused by the stiffness of an image, so after completing the painting, I removed the canvas and stretched it onto another, generic frame, placing the entire painting on the same plane. As a result, the portrait became distorted, similar to a widescreen display, but a subtly perceptible line remained in the center due to the fold. Consequently, the expressive power of the face intensified (a tired gaze, one eye partially closed, conveying a sense of exhaustion). The distortion caused by the separation further emphasizes the feeling that the head is burdened with troubles, almost as if the force of gravity compresses the face.

My unattainable endeavor is to create complex artworks that capture a moment of reality yet bear timeless truths. Complexity encompasses not only the physical appearance but also the intellectual and emotional space. My paintings carry the reality of the photograph, the content of thought, and the color palette of the mood. This quest for truth can never reach a state of perfection because the world is constantly changing; what is true today may be false tomorrow. The painting is only seemingly constant, but in reality, it means something different every day. Perhaps truth is just an illusion, like an image? Perhaps yes, but the search for it is undoubtedly real.
