This is an accurate representation of Comet 67P / Churyumov–Gerasimenko but transformed to bring out the inherent and mysterious characteristic of its similarity to veiled depictions of the Virgin Mary. The reference photograph was released by the European Space Agency (ESA) from their 2015 Rosetta space mission which sent a probe 'Philae' to the surface of Comet 67P to send back remarkable images and data. This is the original painting featured by the ESA in their artistic tributes to Rosetta blog which featured artists' responses to the space mission from all over the world.
