White Pine and Birch Print

Inspired by Frontenac Park in Québec, part of the Northern reaches of the Appalachians. Early morning fog rising over my camp. Dead trunks of white bark birch thrust into the sky alongside others that are still alive. The sky catches all kinds of colors, and the woods reflect tones of orange and purple. This piece is painted directly onto a wood canvas, made out of museum grade plywood mounted onto wood backing. The wood border is 1.5 inches thick and is painted black. This piece does not require a frame with glass. The pastel has been fixed and is not applied thickly, since there is the watercolor underpainting. Therefore the true texture of the material makes it more accessible than traditional pastels. Nevertheless, the piece would not stand up to rubbing on a regular basis, and should be placed in a dry place. The piece comes with a cord attached to hang it unframed.
