About The Artwork

Distanced Painting Curious, you are coming closer... You have to move back again to see and grasp all. This is the painting by Krzysztof Pająk. It attracts through its energy, color, the forms vitality. tekst monika wiktor Monika Wiktor Art historian, she lives ard works in Warsaw. IT ENCOURAGES WITH THE DETAIL, simultaneously forc-ing one to maintain some distance. The artist fills in his works tight with the painting signs. This visible horror vacui does not mean fear of the composition emptiness, merely a result of his sensitivity. Krzysztof Pająk is an attentive observer. He registers every detail to approach the truth as much as it is possible. He is taking in fast, in order to convey the most he can. He is objective. He is not pointing out what is the most important in his works. His painting combines the abstract forms with the organic and geometric shapes. Each time, the pre-sentation is being built in a different way. The abundance of various structures, and their seemingly incidental juxtaposition - in „The Blue Lagoon" (2001) and „The Orange Zone" (2001) - seem to exist independently and burst the canvas with their energy. „The Last Supper" (1994) and „St. Mathew with Angel" (1994) are the examples of the representa¬tions where elementary forms have been subordinated to the wholeness, and their richness builds it up. There is no narration in the works by Krzysztof Pająk. The artist has been searching neither for com¬plex symbols, nor comparisons. He reaches out for signs, or rather he is shaping his original painting lan¬guage. He returns to simple forms and elements. He puts them side by side anew, confronting them with the modernity. He attempts to show reality with all its charm and its traps. His painting puts the contemporary world into order. He fishes out the most vital of the chaos. In his search for truth, the artist is striving to show the united and comprehensible world. His painting is like a mosaic built out of thousands of colorful bits. It gets legible only from a certain distance. ■ Krzysztof Pająk, Painting, The Visiting Gallery, Warsaw, May - 2003.
