About The Artwork

Yoni’s in Bloom is one of my favourite paintings I have created. The painting depicts two vulvas, in a garden of bearded Iris flowers, lotus flowers and other blooms. The Yoni and flowers are surrounded by and abundance of teal blues, purples and greens hues. There is a feeling of heavenly energy as the flowers are illuminated by pinks and golden yellow falling from the sky above. The painting brings a comparison of the vulvas labia, to the petals on the flowers with the juxtaposition showing the similarity between the reproductive centres of the human and the plant world. My aim is to dispel the common idea of the vulvas image being obscene, so it is no longer hidden and censored from view as it has been throughout history, but is admired for its beauty and uniqueness, as we admire nature’s blooms. This artwork is due to be exhibited in the ’31 days of yoni’ exhibition inline with international women's day in March 2020. The artwork is available for presale with delivery available in April 2020.

I am a feminist artist exploring, sexuality, beauty, queer culture and the natural world. My artworks combine elements of drawing and painting and I take my time to explore the textures and layers of paint on the substrate. By using use emotive, saturated colour and gradients of light, I aim to create an essence of the divine in my work. I make art that acknowledges the super power and life giving properties of the Yoni, and life within the female experience. My work responds to societal erasure, censorship and the impact of the patriarchy on the lives of those who identify as female. I desire to empower the viewer and influence their perception of beauty by encouraging them to seek a viewpoint outside of the orthodox social constructs. When people experience my work, I want them to experience beauty and divinity, not erotic objectification or sexualization of the vulva.
