About The Artwork

From the artists' series 'Provençal'..Produced in three different regions of the South of France {Arles, Marseille & Rousillon}. "Aboriginal" reveals the property owners inspired idea of painting the separations in the manner of a well known Australian Aboriginal pattern. And like other works from this series, was discovered in Arles, France in the neighborhood resided in by Vincent Van Gogh. This work of art vividly depicts the vernacular architecture of old world French towns dating back to Roman rule. Yet even moreso, it reflects the world renown Light of Provençe..famous for the inspiration of not only van Gogh, but also Matisse, Gauguin and the Impressionists; and was home to mythical figures such as Nostradamus, Cézanne and the Marquis DeSade. The same alluring atmospheric light which served as a magnet to the great painters of Europe is equally potent in illuminating the pigmented colors of this rare print. According to a gallery review by a New York art historian: "This series from the South of France by Lahary Pittman is exceptionally striking and unforgettable. At first glance his richly textured, bold, predominantly geometric abstractions appear as though they are paintings. Upon closer observation of his images, one realizes they are photographs of architectural details. The artist clearly has an acute eye for capturing original compositions full of luminous color. The symmetry of his verticals breaking horizontal planes are deep intimate studies of a truly personal nature".
