About The Artwork

The photography belong to the series "Before we drawn". "When I do photo shooting, I still think painting". When I saw the location with the incredibly beautiful in its decaying retro car, I was immediately "drawn" into the atmosphere of one of my favorite paintings, Ophelia by British artist Sir John Everett Millais. The paintings depicts Ophelia, a character from William Shakespeare's play Hamlet, singing while floating in a river just before she drowns. Ophelia's death has been praised as one of the most poetically written death scenes in literature. In this series of a male nude I wanted to create a dialogue between the beauty and youth of the flesh and decaying and rotting steel, conquered by nature. The pose of my muse —his open arms —resembles traditional portrayals of saints or martyrs, but also is very sensual and erotic. The subject of correlation between death and erotism is something I am peculiar interested about. I love to create a dreamlike atmosphere in my shoots, when boarder between reality and illusion, painting and photography is becoming ambiguous. The rusted car which in reality gives a feeling of cold sharpie edges, in a painting-like photography turns into the living organism in symbiosis with nature and with a human body. And this dialing is not about conflicting powers, but about surrendering our separateness, and realization that we are not outside of nature, but within it.
