About The Artwork

I have spent time on an Expedition ship in June 2017 in the Pack-Ice of Svalbard to explore the Arctic and to photograph birds and other wildlife in their natural habitat. The black-legged kittiwake (Rissa tridactyla) is a coastal breeding bird around the north Pacific and north Atlantic oceans, found most commonly in North America and Europe. It breeds in large colonies on cliffs and is very noisy on the breeding ground. In Svalbard, the black-legged kittiwake is a common breeding species in all parts of the archipelago. On our first zodiac tour through the pack ice I have discovered this black-legged kittiwake, who was sitting on a snow-covered ice floe on the lookout for it's fish prey. This image has won me a honorable mention photography Award with the Tokyo International Photography Awards (TIFA) in 2017.
