About The Artwork

The Discobolus of Myron "discus thrower" is a Greek sculpture that was completed toward the end of the severe period, circa 460 - 450 BC. The original Greek bronze is lost but the work is known through numerous Roman copies, both full-scale ones in marble, which was cheaper than bronze, such as the first to be recovered, the Palombara Discobolus, and smaller scaled versions in bronze. The statue is celebrated for its depiction of balance and harmony, capturing the dynamics of a thrower’s physical actions. The contrapposto stance, subtly shifting the athlete’s weight from one leg to the other, imparts a semblance of motion and adds an element of realism to the artwork. The potential energy expressed in the sculpture’s tightly wound pose, representing the moment just before the release, is an example of the advancement of classical sculpture from Archaic forms. Myron is often credited with being the first sculptor to master this style, and his work has had a lasting impact on the representation of athletic energy in art. The Discobolus is a testament to the artistic and athletic achievements of ancient Greece and remains a significant piece of art history. If you’re interested in seeing a replica of this masterpiece, there are several Roman copies in various museums around the world.

I've had a creative impulse from a young age. My art is a means of self expression and to create images that I can revisit and enjoy. Inspiration is not something I can quantify. My artwork recreates a mood or a feeling, I also like making purely decorative images. Hopefully other's enjoy my artwork.
