My work is entirely organic: both the technique and the subject. This is the only way for me to express my vision of life and to make my art consistent. As far as the technique is concerned, every image is taken with an analogue camera and chemical processing is applied to obtain a specific result. Such technique is tangible and linked to the natural world. I have the impression that it is more human. In this image we observe a microcosm both vegetal and linear. That is a world in miniature: a tiny detail of the nature which stands for the birth as well as the blossoming. In this unique world flower buds, growing and sparkling with colours, evoke the notion of creation and self-development. My image is very expressive. The stems of the plant flow in the air as if they surf on the waves. In the centre of the ‘waves’ a surfer, like a flower bud, ‘grows’ from the stem and speeds up into the wild world. What is the story behind the scene? The ‘vegetal’ part of the image was taken on the beach in Costa Rica. My wife was in a bungalow with my baby crying and I needed peace. When I reached the beach, I saw this coconut tree lying on the sand. Instantly I got attracted by the sophisticated form and the magic light of the scene. I had no more than 5 minutes before the sunset, but I made up my mind to record this evanescent view. It struck me with fragile beauty and refreshing silence. The “surfing’ part of the image was taken in south-west France, near “Le porge océan” during a cold winter. Again, my baby son made me exhausted. Ocean, as usual, was my salvation. I called a friend and we headed for surfing in the middle of nowhere. We were alone. While surfing I saw him catching this perfect wave. Out of the blue, in my mind’s eye, I saw the two pieces set together: the branches on the sand with the surfer emerging from this vegetal form. At last, I got calm. At that point it is clear again that this is passion which lets us be unique and live our life fully. Moreover, this piece of art suggests an important reflection on the artist’s philosophy: will and passion are the engine for making our dreams come true.
