VIEW IN MY ROOM
This body of work is a study of the language of emotion through the human body; specifically how its position and movement captures and communicates sadness, pain and hope. I was inspired by Gericault’s Le Radeu de la Meduse oil painting to recreate a modern day shipwreck represented by a building, rather than a raft. The building, which like the raft, was built by humans, with a purpose of usefulness, has now deteriorated from its original form. Like the Medusa’s painting represents both darkness and hope, the idea of this project was to recreate the human emotion represented by the injured and brave warriors by creating a human interaction with the building, creating a contrast between the warm, soft and flexible characteristics of the human body, and the building’s solid and hard forms.
