I hope these passions of mine inspire your spirit to soar as mine does when I create them. My photographs involve a series of processes before the final outcome of the picture you are viewing. Prior to photographing flowers I was creating abstract paintings. These paintings became very personal to me, so much so that I didn’t want to sell them. Then I started taking macro photography and ended up combining the two mediums. My adventure now takes me through many exciting steps. First being, an abstract painting. These are done during the Northwest winter. It’s an ideal time to be cozy and paint! Then comes spring….time to hunt for flowers, plant and watch them grow. As they start springing forth their beauty of bloom I snip them and start photographing. At that point I set up venues, I use a combination of fresh flowers and my abstract paintings. The final stage is when I get to view the photo on my computer. This part is so thrilling, it’s like when someone has given you a wrapped gift and you have no idea what it’s inside the box. Some of the photos are mouth dropping. Through the use of Macro Photography I am able to view this tiny flower up close; details that you may never see with the human eye. Now that is pure nature’s beauty. The last stage is to correct anything digitally that may not be to be my liking.

Kate grew up in Kirkland, Washington where she lived with her family on 3 acres in the midst of vegetable and flower gardens. There was a mystical quality that permeated the historical Victorian home. She was raised with the sense of art being part of one's anatomy... it was part of her being. The upstairs attic was an invitation to play with paint or sew the latest for a dolls wardrobe. Artist talents surrounded her since early childhood; a mother who painted and pressed flowers; a father who had inspirations of landscape design. Each one of her siblings built a business around their passion be it a doll maker, wood carver, landscape designer, poet. The influences throughout the years were a sense of awe and magnificence in her surrounding world. Kate cared for her Mother in her home and after her Mother's passing Kate became insatiable to pursue her latent yearning to be creative. She lived and breathed art in every corner of her world…..even when shopping at the hardware store! Kate has no formal training in the world of creativity but it permeates her inner self on a daily basis. Whether it be painting, photography or cooking, it invites the spirit inside of her to play....to create. Her artwork is an expression of the love of nature, its surprises and its hope.....with a childlike wonder and memories from her past. Her photography combines her paintings, flowers, and backdrops into one composition. They are sensual and full of a passion through the use of extraordinary color combinations while hinting upon natures beautiful landscapes. The detailed qualities of her work reflect nature's hidden delights the naked eye misses when viewing. Currently Kate is retired from a local school district and devoted herself to that for 30 years. Kate's artwork has become her second endeavor to fulfill her retirement years. She now lives in the beautiful, nature inspiring Bellingham, Wa.
