Sonja Mehner was born in 1978 in Göttingen, Germany It has been her passion to dress up and to experience make-up since her early childhood. Since she was 15, she has used photography to create a fantasy world and preserve it. She made masses of self- portraits and photos of her little sister in her early years. After her high- school graduation, she attented the "Lette Verein" in Berlin, one of Germany's leading schools in photodesign. During her studies in Berlin and Paris she has worked for and assisted many different famous photographers. After her studies she has been living and working 4 years in Paris as a free-lance photographer. Since 2006 she had her office in Santanyí on Mallorca and since 2010 she lifed in Hamburg. 2012 birth of her daughter Maya Coco in Göttingen. Why I am my own model? I am my own object. I can do with myself everything I want to, and do everything for myself. I look beautiful, I look ugly, I undress, I roll in the mud anytime. I'm the one who sets the limits. In my creative process as a photographer I don´ t feel the need to judge my imagination, images and wishes. Model and photographer are the same person, their feelings and imagination are the same, therefore there are no compromises. A realisation without any limits can take place. All that with a lot of patience, creativity and spontaneity.
