For this image I was inspired by abstract impressionist artists, including Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning. I generally try to make my original photographs resemble paintings, and this image is no exception. I was also interested in responding to the threat of climate change and the increasing incidents of terrifying fires, especially in the USA and Australia. So my desire was to create an image which has a certain menacing beauty, but is an image evoking a raging conflagration, and I hope the viewers of this image will feel both an attraction and a sense of danger, which seems to me to be the reaction that many feel when in the presence of large fires. I chose the angularity and intense colours inherent in the abstract expressionist style as it seemed best suited to the meaning I wanted to convey. This work is printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art Baryta Satin, an archival 300 gsm archival photographic paper of superior quality and longevity. It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, dated and signed by the artist, Jeff Laurents For wall hanging, the print can be window mounted and framed or mounted with a fibre board backing, according to the buyer's preference.

I studied for my degree in photography at the Polytechnic of Central London and also lectured in Cinema for the British Film Institute. I have specialised in digital image making for many years. My art is mostly abstract images or landscape photographs which I have transformed digitally to resemble paintings rather than straight photographs. I also create cityscapes, images of iconic local scenes which I sell to art galleries and retail outlets in my area. My approach is experimental, and when working on my images I will reject a version that doesn't appeal to my sensibilities, and I will continue to work on an image until I'm happy with the result. Some of the titles of my artwork are deliberately tongue in cheek, as in my images 'A Grave Situation' and 'One of The Beetles', or ironic as in 'Global Warming'. I try to create images that appeal to the viewer's feel for shape, colour and texture and sense of composition, or for strong graphic monochromes, so my work is motivated by aesthetics.
