About The Artwork

"Hooked" is a selfportrait that speaks about the feeling of desperately wanting to be someone/do something all while knowing that it might be that you are putting yourself in the condition of a prisoner. Be it with simple things, relationships, addictive habits or serious life choices, this feeling can be very harsh. The metal wire is intertwined with the facial jewellery, suggesting that this is a feeling sewed on, that it's far too late to go back now. Printed in Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 to enhance the gritty, textural feeling of the image.

Fernanda Basso is a Brazillian visual artist and photographer focusing on creating visual narratives that illustrate her inner imaginary universes all while the calculated fakeness brings attention to topics related to the feminine, spiritual dreamscapes and fantasies - with an eye for surreal compositions and through the use of elaborate retouching. Having graduated from the Fashion Communication BA at Central Saint Martins in London, her images fluctuate around the universes of fashion and art and propose ludic ideas - even on commercial projects. Driven by the will to embrace weirdness and celebrate individuality, she strives to create fearless and bold images. With her photobook "whipped", she has been featured in the itinerant photo art festival "zum" and has achieved a permanent spot at the library of the Instituto Moreira Salles in São Paulol. The artist lives in Florianopolis, in the south of Brazil, where she works as a photographer and art director, developing art projects and photoshoots for brands.
