About The Artwork

Versova Beach, Mumbai. I have to give credit to ICM and by extension, slow shutter speeds to create motion, for reinvigorating my passion for photography. I've always wanted to take my photography to another level where an artistic career may be possible. Street photography in itself, while something that I love and will always do, isn't necessarily a genre that art buyers want to put up on their walls. I could say the same for ICM, arguably. But what I find endearing about ICM is the freedom that it allows me to shoot in all kinds of lighting conditions that typical street photography may prove difficult to work in. I can shoot when the sun is high and the light is harsh. And I can usually pull something out of these situations if I have the right subjects around me, which are usually people. Roughly 70-90% of the image effects I achieve are captured in the camera. These are the motion lines and general blurring effects that are the trademark signatures of the ICM genre. The rest of the work I carry out in post typically includes compositing textures and multiple images, color correction, a whole lot of clone stamping, and a myriad of Photoshop techniques that I feel are needed to create a new world, a world that's different from how a camera sees, and different from how we see it. I'm also thrilled to be working primarily in manual focus, which completely negates the need for new, expensive lenses. I'm even using some of my old glass, like a fisheye lens, to add another visual component that's not easy to create otherwise. In short, ICM is making it possible to make use of all of my gear in new and unexpected ways. That's always a plus.

American fine art photographer Craig Boehman is based in Mumbai. He began his professional career in photography when one of his street images was selected for the cover of the German edition of Le Monde Diplomatique in 2015. Since then his focus has been on photography in public places, with long-term street and documentary projects in Kolkata and Mumbai. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Craig began to explore fine art composite photography during India’s strict lockdown phase in early 2020. His keen interest in Expressionism lead him to explore street imagery based on candid and posed shots of individuals as subjects. Many of his composites are made up of the street photography shots he’s taken over the years. Craig runs street photography workshops and accepts assignments and commissions. His work has been shown in photography exhibitions around the world and featured in publications like Le Monde Diplomatique, Verve Magazine, and The Hindustan Times.
