About The Artwork

This is a digital photographic print on lustre photographic paper mounted on 2mm aluminium. The hanging batten is fixed to the back of the aluminium ready for the corresponding batten (supplied) to be fixed to the wall for mounting. Print is part of a limited edition of prints and is numbered and signed on the back by the artist. The print was made using go-pro cameras and macro phone cameras filming local landscape and plant life. The images were merged with film editing software to create a series of stills.

Born in Cape Town, South Africa, I began moving to countries from an early age. Much of my late childhood was spent in the Middle East and England for boarding school. Living in between cultures and diverse landscapes has heavily influenced my work. I have settled in rural Gloucestershire, UK, where I spend my time in my studio and walking. My artistic practice began as a painter but has gradually moved to photography, print and digital media. During my recent MA I have developed my practice to explore our human relationship with landscape and technology. I use digital media as my creative source material to interpret the evolving dynamics between our biological and technological surroundings. I like to encourage deliberate glitches within the digital material to act as a metaphor for the disruptions and uncertainties that we face in our current environmental crisis. I subject these glitched source materials to AI systems - I want to question the role and limitations of AI in deciphering and creating meaning from seemingly nonsensical inputs, similar to how human beings also grapple with making sense out of abstract concepts. My images seek to question the assumed versions of reality that we take for granted and the many conflicting narratives presented to us throughout the digital world. My landscapes have a futuristic quality; an eerie yet familiar vision of what the future might hold.
