This project utilizes elements represented by ocean life, vegetables and flowers as icons of nature. The color is very natural earth color, and the texture is more like dreamy and fantasy. A special about fossils inspired me to take photographs of symbolic nature combing them in Photoshop with scans of textiles. I wanted to keep these images in my world, and make way to new generation. There are several ways to the resulting images. The first way, the images are printed on canvas and mounted to a frame like a painting. I want to represent these images as realistic. The other way is represented to a frame like a painting. I want to represent these images as realistic. The other way is represented by museum box. It is the photographs of the new fossils put, kept, and seen through a box. I want it to be a fossil which is kept in the box and showed for next generation. These pieces harmonize the intersection of nature and culture of photography’s realism and painting’s interpretive reality of traditional and technological media. Additionally these pieces blend the Asian art traditions I grew up with to the American idiom around me. These photographs to me are a way of expressing the elements of design such as an icon. The icon of ocean like, vegetables and flowers consists of points, line and surfaces, and with this combination, it creates more beauty and fantasy. This “New Fossils” project reminds the viewer of the beauty hidden among the pollution and darkness that is eating away our home.
