This is the first of a series of photographs that were taken in Yosemite Valley during the winter of 2023. The park was closed because of snow fall unlike anything that is known of in the modern history in Yosemite Valley. Likely as not no one living or dead has seen what the residents of Yosemite Valley saw during the amazing snow fall period of January, February and March of 2023 when over thirty atmospheric rivers impacted central and southern California. I was one of the very fortunate residents of Yosemite Valley so I was able to be there to witness this amazing and beautiful time in Yosemite. Now through my photography, I will be able to share the wonder of the amazing Yosemite winter of 2023. I was more than inspired by the wonder of nature that I witnessed in Yosemite Valley as the snow fell and fell and fell and fell.

I work in Yosemite National Park as a tour guide. I have worked in Yosemite for over 30 years. My artwork is inextricably tied to my Yosemite Geography and my ecological message. I am a plein air painter, print maker, and photographer. I also write and illustrate my own books. I am the author of "A Brief Instruction in Christian Religion," (A translation of Faustus Socinus), "The Chronicles of the Field Mouse Timothy," (Corn,Tomato,Wheat, Cotton, Sweet Potatoes, Rice Paddy, Pond Mouse and Yosemite), "Nature Vision" (Poems), and I have illustrated the short stories of my late daughter Sandra Fontana "Cereal at Midnight." I love nature and the wilderness. I am a proponent of the global national parks movement.
