Film director and photographer
1964 born in Turkey, lives in Germany since 1980

"For some, the ocean reflects a longing to sail away; others find joy swimming in its water, their souls gently rocked by the swell. Born in 1964 in Izmir, Turkish-German photographer Erdal Buldun has these same feelings, possibly even stronger than most. Buldun spent his childhood nearby the sea in Turkey, feeding his lunch sandwiches to dolphins, but moved with his mother in to the middle of Germany when he was 16. It was a very dry spell; for years he missed the sea constantly. His longing, and that of his mother constantly grew stronger. Finally, she could stand it no longer and returned to live on the Izmir Gulf. From her bed she can hear and see the sea, and each morning she can swim in its waters and meditate while she is floating The sea is like a gigantic screen on which to project feelings and desires. It is a source of joy, Buldun explains. About seven years ago, he decided to make a project out of this passion. Every time he visits the sea, or even a lake, Buldun goes equipped with a Leica M6 and Summicron-M 35 mm f/2 Asph. and Summicron-M 50 mm f/2 lenses. Only when he and his wife went off on honeymoon did he promise to leave the whole equiment in the bag".
