About The Artwork

these photographs are a collage of images where the skies of southern Chile appear and among these skies come the Selk'nam spirits that belong to the ritual El Hain, the transition from young men to adulthood, was a school for young people where it was transferred their worldview and rules of coexistence.   The Selk'nam were the inhabitants of the south of the world, the land of fire of infinite Patagonia; his way of life was the oldest of mankind, was the stone age, the Paleolithic hunters and gatherers. Its population was estimated at 3,500 to 4,000 individuals; in 1880 the first settlers began to arrive who began with the usurpation of territories, during the last decades of the nineteenth century until the beginning of the twentieth century the Selk'nam were decimated, were not considered as humans by their hunters. work is based on the Selknam Photographic records made by Martin Gusinde.
