About The Artwork

Barbers Shop in Stockwell, London 1979. I would imagine the shop is long gone now. I thought the two sets of figures were rather touching and wondered if the small set came first and then the barber was inspired to enlarge on the idea or was the large one first and the small one made from offcuts. Originally shot on film, the negative has been scanned and is printed on Canson Baryta Photographique 310 gsm paper. Signed and dated bottom right, Edition number, bottom left. Paper size 42cm x 29.7cm. Image size is 38cm. x 25.3cm. Signed, numbered, titled and dated on verso. Sent with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Born in 1955 in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and could not wait to get away. Spent time after finishing an ignominious school career in Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan Pakistan, India and Nepal. Then studied Photography at Sheffield Poly, starting in 1979. Did Teacher Training and taught for 1 year at a school in North London which was more than enough. Subsequently worked for Warner Brothers in a non photographic capacity and the BBC both Teaching and Photographing. I have recently returned to working with traditional, wet processes alongside digital. The images in my portfolio start in the 70's and go through to the present day. www.ianhoskin.co.uk
