About The Artwork

When I get into photo blocks I take to the streets and photograph the city as it is fluttering past me. I do stop, compose, but how I take the image is to create that feeling of how we capture fragments in our memory and mood. Los Angeles captured my soul when I finally settled into its character. When I made this work I was reclaiming my photography idenity after becoming a mom of twins. I was with my kids but felt alone, photography and walking in a city especially Los Angeles, I didn't. Melrose Ave is know as a corridor to street art and wheat past murals. Having art that was placed almost in rebellion in this area is alway inspiring. But I also love the play with the overgrown floral weed. I really adore the arid vegetation that is indigenous to the actual desert climate of LA.

I grew up in the Washington, DC metro area. I relocated to West Hollywood in 2000 then most recently moved to Montclair, NJ with my family (husband, five year old girl/boy twins, a six year old cat and a plant). I have been an avid student, gallery organizer, college teacher, and interior design consultant. A majority of my photo work pulls from family experiences and exploring how to re-represent them. I also have a love for modern landscape images that can provoke nostalgia, quiet humor, and significant mundane everyday beautiful moments we take for granted.
