About The Artwork

When visited Subotica, a beautiful city in the north of Serbia in the province of Vojvodina, full of architectural, cultural and religious sights, I could not miss this magnificent sacral building. I went inside and was immediately delighted with the sight. I took a camera and of course, I took photos because it was allowed inside the synagogue. This is a view from the inside through rows of benches to the side door of the synagogue. You can also see two decorated pillars as well as part of the upper gallery. On both sides of the door on the wall are windows decorated with the vitrages of the famous Tiffany glass. The synagogue in Subotica is one of the largest in the world. It is the second largest in Europe and the fifth in the world. In addition, it is certainly one of the most beautiful. It was built in 1902 in the Art Nouveau style according to the project of the Budapest architects Marcello Komor and Dezs Jakab, an associate of the architect Odon Lechner, the creator of the Hungarian Art Nouveau. In 1974, it was declared a cultural monument of exceptional importance. The synagogue is one of the most valuable achievements of these Central European types of religious architecture. It is characterized by bold and modern architectural designs, stained glass decorations and stylization taken from Hungarian folklore, such as stylized rose petals, lilies and carnations and peacock feathers. In the four smaller domes, which symbolize the four corners of the world, rests a large central dome that symbolizes the universe. The dome above the central part is enriched with constructive innovations, so it rests on an iron structure supported by eight iron pillars. Three entrance doors leading to the narthex, above which is a space for women, and four staircases leading to the gallery. In addressing the facades, we notice three horizontal belts: the first belt of the entrance portals and the horizontal apse around them; the second - in which there is a pediment with the main stained glass window, and in the corners two lower towers; third - a drum dome with a double dome. Bricks and painted Zsolnai ceramics with decorated ornaments based on Hungarian folk motifs were used .... it is certainly one of the most beautiful sacral buildings in this region and you should definitely visit it if you ever come to Serbia and Subotica. Welcome to my Saatchi Art print shop! I am a fine art photographer, photo editor-retoucher and photo restorator and colorist from Serbia with years of experience. I mostly do landscape photography and I love to photograph all those beautiful scenes that are worth saving forever. Here you can buy my artwork prints: fine art prints, canvas prints and framed prints that will decorate your home and all of that in the best possible print quality. All you see here are my original artworks, so I do not resale any stock images. What makes me happiest is when I see that people really like my work and want it hanging on their walls.
