About The Artwork
I met with the sea over 30 years ago during my life-long journey to physical and mental rehabilitation following my third and last war injury in 1973 - a meeting that led to a personal journey of observing, studying and doing conservation, restoration and development of the tropical marine environment - the underwater world of reefs, the seashores ... and those who live in, near and of the sea. Over the years, operating especially in Southeast Asian and Caribbean countries (mainly islands) - I discovered the destruction and corruption of the sea due to human arrogance, greed and short-sightedness - by those who live off the sea as much as by those who research, explore, try to control it or those who simply supposed to enjoy it… Yet, driven by my imagination, ethical concerns and creativity, I was documenting the sights, colors and sensations associated with the sea’s natural ability to overcome the serious harm done to it, heal itself, regenerate and recreate its marvelous sights. My works are telling my personal restoration, through the story of nature creating a new life and overcoming "invasive species" alongside with showing photographs of "indigenous species", re-creating in natural healing and rehabilitation processes, new life and sights. The works are displayed in galleries (as pictures, installations and sculptures), applied to interior and exterior design (wall pictures, furniture, gardens and pools) and are integrated into an underwater installation/structure (built of natural rocks) that helps preserve and restore the marine and coastal environment ...

Israeli artist Amos Gazit’s underwater photography is an organic extension of his years-long rehabilitation from three war wounds which left him physically, psychologically, and morally shattered. In turn, he has spent the past three decades studying and documenting the marine environment and participating in international efforts to rehabilitate it from the ravages of civilization. While documenting the destruction of marine life, he has been captivated by its magical beauty and the sea’s extraordinary ability to overcome the damage done to it, regenerate its resources, and heal itself. Amos’ photographs of the marine environment are printed on aluminum, tempered glass, laminated paper, plexiglass, canvas, and rocks. They are displayed in galleries and underwater installations and incorporated into furniture and interior/exterior design. "Photography grew out of my work in conservation" I started to take pictures as a means of documenting the destruction of the reefs and shores. But no-one with a soul and imagination can avoid the enchanting beauty of the sea and its endless diversity. Led by my imagination, morals, and creativity, I started the long voyage of conservation, development, and management of the tropical marine environment (reefs & shores) in countries and islands in Southeast Asia and the South Caribbean.
