About The Artwork

This work combines my wildlife photographs with street art and Khoi/Bushman art. This warthog was photographed in the Isimangaliso Wetland Park in KZN, South Africa. He and his fellow piggy pals were scouting for tasty roots when I came across them. They can be pretty aggressive so you need to take care. When I first became acquainted with San/Khoi/Bush art drawings I was fascinated watching how they revealed their lives. Later, in Europe, I became fascinated by graffiti art. The artists also depicted their worlds, and views. I saw the connection between those ancient tribes and us, as depicted through street art. I am a passionate wildlife photographer, spending as much time as possible in the bushveld of Botswana, Namibia and my country, South Africa. I was fascinated with creating a new style of wildlife images that carry (on various levels), this combination of ancient and modern art depictions and symbols, whether they are on a street wall, or the walls of a cave.

Ann is a vibrant and prolific artist, wildlife photographer, and author. She was voted in 2020 as one of South Africa's top artists. She initially became known for her ‘ewe/sheep’ series of work. Whilst maintaining her ironic humor she has painted a number of other series of works, including ‘Wild Life’ ‘Zulu Lulu’ and 'Going to the Dogs series. A recurring theme in her work is a play on words and the use of popular jargon. Her quirky, humorous, yet profoundly insightful art, allows the viewer not only to laugh at themselves but to examine many of the absurd aspects of life.
