About The Artwork

I met William Faulkner in 1962 in Oxford, Mississippi. Some high school buddies and I went to his now famous home there, Rowan Oak, as a lark and ended up actually talking with him and see where he wrote. In 2005, I took a road trip with my friends Michael Eastman and Stan Feldman to take pictures at Rowan Oak through another friend Ron Shapiro who arranged with the curator to open the house just for us for that purpose. Michael is a nationally recognized photographer. I took this picture to finally record what I had first seen in Faulkner's presence 43 years earlier.

I had been an avid collector of photography and a photographer for the past 25 years. My artistic interests derived mainly from the works of painters such as Edward Hopper and John Sloan, from the master street photographers such as Cartier-Bresson, Kertesz, Walker Evans, and from the color photography of Eggleston. Christenberry, Stephen Shore, and Michael Eastman. I have traveled extensively photographing people, places, and both urban and natural landscapes striving to capture the beauty and soul of the subjects and places. I photograph and print both in color and black and white. Family and friends had always encouraged me to display and sell my work. Several years ago, after practicing and teaching law for more than 40 years, I decided to pursue photography on a professional basis to do this in conjunction with forming a company and becoming a seller and dealer in fine photography. In 2013, I became counsel to Capes, Sokol, St. Louis, Missouri (Capessokol.com), where I continue to practice on a limited basis, and devote the remainder of my time to my business and community interests. For several years, I taught photography in an inner city after school program, and otherwise actively participate in photography and the arts. I am currently serving on the Board of the International Photography Hall of Fame located here in St. Louis.
