The figure of a man in a top hat carved on a beech tree at Woodfidley, Hampshire, England. The date 1851 is carved inside the top hat. The outline of the hat seems to nave been recut with the date 1852 added over it. There used to be several of the carvings and this was the last to survive until the tree was blown down in a storm in 1997. It is thought that the carvings were caricatures of a supervisor on the railway who was unpopular. The nearby railway line was built in 1848 and originally went from Southampton to Wimborne, Dorset
