Growing up in SOHO, New York, and greatly influenced by abstract expressionists like Robert Rauschenberg and Robert Motherwell, I thought I would be an abstract painter. I used many of Rouchenberg’s techniques in making my early collages. The work titled 42nd Street Time Square and Metropolis are digital mixed-media photo collage. Today I use my photographs and digitally hand-painted elements. Instead of using solvents to lift magazine images onto paper or cut and paste techniques, I now use photoshop to layer and assemble. The collages use multiple layers of photographs layered into geometric patterns of colors, textures, and bits of street graffiti. The work has an urban and abstract expressionist vibe because most images came from textures found in urban environments. Most came from my city excursions. I am constantly updating my library of textures and surfaces. I try to carry a camera everywhere I go—shooting surfaces like subway walls and construction site facades. These collages have been made into NFTs and are available on Foundation.

Marc VanDermeer who goes by the online nom de guerre, VanDi, is a mixed media digital artist from the USA. A traditional abstract artist started painting at the age of ten. He was initially taught by his artist/sculpture and poet mother, Carol Levy Vandermeir. His formal art education began at the Philadelphia College of Art (UArts) in 1971, graduating with a degree in film in 1976. He followed with continued part-time education at SVA, Parsons, and Silvermine School of Art. Working across a pastiche of artistic genres and style in a creative mélange of thought-provoking fantasy and surreal imagery. His body of work expresses his flirtation with photography, painting, and digital media. He is crossing modern expressionism, street art, collage, classicism, landscape painting, pop art, minimalism in an artistic mash-up of award-winning art. VanDi explains, “Legacy for me is paramount; I see myself as carving that legacy each time I produce something new.” When asked to define his style or influences, Marc replies It’s challenging to describe my current style, which is dictated by both anatomical observation and mood. Choosing sometimes to express his thoughts and philosophy on canvas or the digital screen. Producing colorful mood evoking art or graphics in black & white." The artist, a lover of classic art and new NFT media, has been in over twenty group and virtual shows in the past twelve months alone. “Art is both an addiction and cathartic part of my daily day.” Marc has no current representation; his physical work is available on Saatchi Art and his website. His NFT work may be seen or purchased on Bitski., Opensea, Kalamint, and Async Art. All links: http://marcvandermeer.net/bio https://linktr.ee/mvd953
