About The Artwork

This work is the result of an evolution of previous landscapes where my eye has been drawn further and further up to the point that the sky has become the main feature, this natural progression has allowed me to fully experiment with the cloud forms and create a much more emotive piece than had it been tied more tightly to a solid landscape. It has originated as a response to prayfulness. This is the first of one of a collection of works. There is a peace and a freedom with this subject matter that more earthbound works. The looseness of the sky allows for an incredibly expressive brushstroke - as I am drawing as much as painting, it leaving the whole work to sit comfortably (or uncomfortably) balanced between the two. (please note - painting depth is 0.75” and has a satin varnish finish for protection)

Drawing has always been a constant in my life with watercolour painting, oil painting and acrylic painting being secondary. After completing my art foundation I spent years studying and working in design, visual communication and branding - and though drawing would always stay constant during this time, the last ten years creating paintings has slowly taken over from my work in design. I have a love for exaggerated joins between lines, stark pencil and charcoal work that expresses the maximum with the minimum of lines and normally choose jaggedness and edginess to my work over smoothness. My work is usually informed by my drawing style - expressing that also in paint and find that my love for harsh lines marries perfectly with the joy I find experimenting with the interplay of colours and the palettes I work with. I have sold prints of my work for the last 10 years, for which I am very grateful, and am now passionate about creating more new larger collections and using online spaces to curate these evolving exhibitions.
