Young, Gifted and Blue is part of the Young Americans series; the artwork delves into the intricacies of fame, deftly celebrating an enigmatic Elvis Presley at the apogee of his stardom. The piece captures the individual's public image and is an ode to their unparalleled talent and originality. It is a poignant reflection on the artist as a distinctive phenomenon that arises and shines brilliantly at the opportune moment, leaving an indelible imprint on the cultural milieu. Aesthetically, the artwork evokes the vibrant colour schemes and imagery found in popular colour print media prevalent in the 20th century, such as magazines, posters, and record sleeves. The medium played a crucial role in disseminating the subject's image to a global audience, fueling the public's interest in the aura and mythologies surrounding stardom. The artwork's title pays tribute to the early years of Elvis, a pioneer of rock and roll, who was renowned for his raw, rebellious style and sexual magnetism, earning him the nickname "Elvis the Pelvis." This fusion of black and white music forms and Presley's style and charisma forever altered popular music and pop celebrity. The artwork thus invites viewers to reflect on the cultural significance of such iconic figures and their enduring impact on our collective consciousness.

My work is informed by emotional responses to colour and the figurative and abstract forms found in natural and urban settings. I have produced creative works for high profile museums and galleries including the V&A and the RA, London. Recent MA study in Art and Design has taken my practice in a typographic/pop-cultural direction. I will continue to develop the work through visual experimentation to produce art that communicates the artistic intention to the viewer in a visually compelling manner.
