About The Artwork

I made this piece for a buyer, who was madly in love with his wife. The rose is carved basswood, the house carved and painted mahogany. I think of the piece as a sonnet: "How do I love thee, let me count the ways" is a line from the 43rd sonnet of Sonnets from the Portuguese, a collection of 44 love sonnets written by Elizabeth Barrett Browning.
