About The Artwork

The installation of a very traditional Turkish dish silently sitting on a white cloth cushion. Substantial laborious work was done over 3500 small-scale works, which is a signifier of the distance between two countries, the UK and Turkey. The food is taken from the table or plate and brought to the art studio. The rituals around food are disrupted in the artwork, especially as a transgression between real and unreal. This transgression takes place itself as spoiling or destroying the food’s image and meaning. I manipulate the cultural expectations for gender-assigned roles in society as a means of transgressing those limits by employing while defiling food as material or subject matter within an art object. This defilement also includes pushing the traditional parameters of clay and ceramics techniques.
