Sydney based artist, Sita Tompkins is an up and coming painter, who employs oil paint to depict her subject matter, ranging from portraits to landscapes. Instagram: @sitatompkins Using natural spaces as a means to explore light, form and colour, touching on the sublime and the independence of nature in which sheer complexity and grandeur continuously exceeds any human ability to control or understand. Interested in work that is always changing, denying the static two dimensional image, Tompkins enjoys the process of painting over and leaving evidence of what was there before. Her works are shifting and in a state of flux, having more of a physical or embodied outcome between the viewer, the work and the space in which it’s exhibited. Letting the process show through the layering and painting over which reflects the passage of time. Looking at the dialectic between constructing light and painting with light, as well as a vivid use of colour, building on the sensorial experience of space, colour, and perception.
