I'm a colorblind artist born in Geneva in 1960, grew up in New York and currently working in London and Geneva. My practice is grounded in the capture of transient emotional states—visual “snapshots” that record a moment of feeling, reflection, or intuitive response. Rather than striving for resolution or completion, I deliberately preserve imperfection and openness within each work. This unfinished quality creates a space for the viewer’s imagination, encouraging active interpretation and critical engagement. Thematically, my work draws from a broad spectrum that includes mythological references, social observations, and personal emotional responses to the landscapes I traverse. These landscapes are often hybrid or fictive, constructed from layered memories and experiences gathered across multiple journeys. In this way, place becomes less a document of geography than a psychological and emotional terrain. Central to my methodology is the rejection of preparatory studies. By eliminating preliminary sketches or planning, I resist the rationalizing distance that can arise between conception and execution. This approach allows the work to remain immediate, intuitive, and emotionally authentic, preserving the tension between control and spontaneity. Formal variations within the work correspond directly to shifts in emotional state—oscillating between moments of serenity and episodes of heightened tension. A consistent element across the practice is the use of strong contrasts and material experimentation. I select media in direct response to the conceptual and emotional demands of each piece, working with charcoal, inks, coffee, walnut stain, acrylic, and watercolor on paper, black paper, kraft paper, and canvas. I am currently developing a body of drawings and paintings focused on London, conceived as a highly subjective portrait of the city. This project foregrounds overlooked or marginal historical sites, using them as entry points to explore memory, absence, and the layered narratives embedded within urban space.
