Bronze resin nude female sculpture with acrylic paint finish. Surface encompasses how social media, trauma and the various pressures of modern life can mould and corrupt the human mind and control how we think. It depicts the emergence from despair and anguish that allows us to see through the façade of modern life and be reborn with a new destiny. Each edition is individually cast by James in his studio using a high quality Bronze resin. Elements such as re-sculpting problematic areas and refinement to the forms are carried out by the artist to retain originality with each edition. The final finish is achieved using a specific palette of acrylic paints mixed and applied by hand, again all done by James. Mounted on a hand polished Portuguese limestone base, the contrast in colour allows the blend of dark and earthy tones to be further prominent and distinctive. This piece in this particular finish is available as a Limited edition of 5.

Starting out as a trained blacksmith metalworker and now full-time sculptor, James began his artistic journey at a young age, creating sculpture from surplus materials from large ornamental ironwork projects. Following various trips to Paris - and witnessing artworks by masters such as Rodin, Michelangelo, Bernini, Claudel and Bugatti - he became hooked on the idea of creating striking figurative sculpture with a contemporary flair, using both traditional and unorthodox media. Choosing to forego formal art training, James enjoys the challenge of understanding complex anatomy and translating it into dynamic and thought provoking works in a subject that has been, and is still is, revered in the world of sculpture. The ethereal style of his work aims to showcase the fragility of the human body and mind in modern society. James continues to work at his home studio in Kingsbridge (Devon) sculpting and casting new works with steel being a preferred medium, appealing to collectors internationally.
