Jorge Ortuno

I work mainly in watercolor and oil. My paintings emerge from quick and spontaneous gestures, where the stain and the stroke decide as much as I do. I am interested in preserving the freshness of the moment, avoiding perfection, and aiming for a direct energy that reaches the viewer.

In works such as A Woman or Die Halbe Miete, you can see the tension between the immediate and the intimate: scenes that may appear simple but hold layers of emotion. I paint with the intention that each piece has its own life, without the need for lengthy explanations or conceptual justifications.

Every painting is unique and does not belong to repetitive series. Some are more minimal and gestural; others more detailed and figurative. All share the same pursuit: images that feel close, honest, and open to the viewer’s personal interpretation.

I paint scenes that arise in the moment, with marks and strokes that decide as much as I do. I want each work to breathe on its own and connect directly with those who look at it.
