Biomorphic Abstract Acrylic Paintings by Marlene Struss
These acrylic paintings on gessoed panel have a rich textured satin surface, lightly varnished edges and sturdy hanging wire. The images are built by several layers of color of varying viscosities, using both adductive and reductive techniques with unusual applicators and application processes, and a minimum of brushwork. The images have an organic quality with naturalistic patterns, balanced elements, harmonious color, depth, space and movement reminiscent of but not replicating nature. They are both complicated and calming at the same time. New details seem to emerge with each viewing as part of the organic nature of the work.
