Seascapes
For the oil paintings of her water images Ilse Gabbert uses nature as an inexhaustible source of artistic inspiration. Only that which is really there can be reflected in the water. The reflections on the water are never the same. Thus the pictures embody the uniqueness of the moment; whilst at the same time drawing parallels to the laws of life and so allowing philosophical thoughts to emerge. Indeed what develops during the painting process, forms the requirement of the image. What is seen therefore turns out to be a stepping stone.
