Used Cars

These images evoke memories of childhood views of the scenery passing by from the back seat of the family station wagon. There are visual contradictions in the American scenery being twisted and bent into surreal shapes and colors in a Hopper meets Magritte sort of dialogue. Equally contradictory is the way the hard edge shapes soften and bend as the hit the hard surface of the automobile. To bring the experience back to its original form for the viewer the work is printed on metal and mounted floating on the wall. The images are named after the type of car the image was reflected in drawing to mind the place the car holds in American culture; including it’s impact on our environment and the status it represents.
