Beyond Zen

Based on an ancient Taoist belief, somewhere in the middle of the ocean, there are three or five islands where immortals dwell. This belief was one of the inspirations for Zen Buddhist to create their Zen gardens. They meditate on nature and landscape around them not for their aesthetic beauty but as a way to reach total freedom of the mind. In this series of digital paintings I inspired by that Taoist story and Zen gardens to create an infinite landscape and hypnotic visual scene for viewer to contemplate and reach a meditative moment upon it. I also utilized the tradition of “unrestricted space and infinite planes” and some other elements of eastern miniature painting in these works.
