Eau de Vie
Michael Kemp researches everyday environments and removes aspects of them from their original context, carefully composing them as photographs that resemble abstract painting. These ‘found works’ examine the accidental products of our environment, details removed from the perspective of their surroundings. Playing upon scale, the subject is often unclear. From miniature to massive, these works display the beauty of simplicity, repetition and decay.
In ‘Eau de vie’ an individual location was used to provide the boundaries of a study - a derelict wine press in southern France, with walls decaying, cracking and leaking stagnant wine.
