Everyday Ions

Bold, iconic figurative work influenced by religious symbology, the Renaissance, vintage postcards, mug shots and daguerreotypes. The themes include my love and respect for all animals, the geologically exotic Driftless Area of the Upper Midwest I come from and our complex human condition viewed through my slightly twisted lens of humor and religious iconography. My human and animal icons are meant to elevate the common to the hallowed. Huge squirrels and women in vintage swim caps are contemporary takes on ancient art forms. The large scale mixed media paintings create an intimacy and an emotional response with the viewer. The work incorporates oil sticks, beeswax, acrylic, texture, gems, glitter and metal leaf.
