Jazz

Jazz is an emotional, free flowing and self-expressive style of music. Jazz stimulates my creativity, especially when I am working with abstract painting. The key element of jazz is improvisation, commonly structured around a repetitive call-and-response pattern. Avant-garde or free-jazz even abandons the strict notion of chord progression, allowing the individual musicians to improvise freely within the context of a given scale or mode. Abstract painting is similar to jazz music in that it is not strictly structural. The free-flow of the mind is allowed and the illusions formed of colour are guided by our sentiment.
