Setting out to describe a flower without stating the obvious triggered a meticulous control of colour, light, and consequently atmosphere. Flowers stem from pitch black, entrancingly unveiled by a neutral palette, where subtle colour glazes appear to illuminate from within. Manipulations of light reveal the delicate equilibrium of the composition. The lavish dimension of the subject in relation to the canvas supports and deepens the tension generated by this balance.
