Ode To Emerson Mixed Media

Ode to Emerson is a series of works on paper, canvas and re-purposed saddles. While working on one of the paintings, I recalled a line from RW Emerson's 'Ode' .....'things are in the saddle and ride mankind'....... I found this line as appropriate to todays relationship between objects and humankind as it was when it was written. The saddle acts as object, form and signifier on many levels. My love of horses, and the ever changing relationship of man to horse and the evolution from prey to work to pleasure guides my pursuit of the subject.
