Memories of life that I didn’t live or have.
Memories often manifest themselves as fragments of the whole picture, when we recall a moment, we don’t see a clear picture but certain details are more vivid than others.
By adding emphasis to certain details in my paintings I am trying to convey and evoke memories and to describe a mood or a feeling more than an action. Relationships are full of emotion and our memories surrounding them are intense yet often confused. Choosing to depict couples from the 50’s makes reference to pop artists like Warhol and Lichtenstein who used comic book images in their art. An interrogation of the idealised vision of this era through modern popular culture, as in a vision of a previous relationship and a previous life that I didn’t live or have.
